Wait... Let Me Explain
It's Not As Bad As You Think, Honestly.
I joked the other day that there should be a new social media platform, where all positivity is banned and any attempt at using 'mindfulness' or other such buzzwords would result in immediate removal. A kind of utopia for miserable bastards like me. What I am basically looking at there is creation of my own wee fiefdom where it's my way or no way.
I reckon that would be fun for some of you, for all of about 15 minutes before you realised you would rather silently judge Judy for her toxic positivity cos my rotten patter isn't clever or funny. So I will just continue with letting any old nonsense tumble out onto this page. I'm saying all this like I was actually going to create a new social media platform? I have neither the ability nor the drive required to do anything like that.
For no reason, other than it's a stone cold classic, here is a song.
After that musical interlude, I shall make my point.
That song, along with probably a hundred others, takes me back to a time in my childhood where I didn't care at all. Did not give one solitary f**k and just lived my 'best life' as most 9/10 year olds would. Great songs were great songs, no time to consider if it was cool or not. Where really the only consideration was which football shirt to wear (Scotland or Liverpool usually). Every time I hear The Bangles, or early U2, Michael Jackson or Bananrama I am transported back to the old Argyle Amusement Arcade where both my parents worked. It seemed like such a grown up place to be and felt very edgy, a bit dangerous to be around.
Easy times - happy times.
What was the point I was making?
Oh, aye. Don't be judgemental. All the wellbeing chat or mindful living nonsense is probably not that. It's something so many people believe in and try to practice. So what if my cynical side thinks some people are trying too hard and the mask will slip? Let them be. Rather than spending time sneering at people for jumping on a bandwagon, I will just carry on on my own path.
As long as nobody tries to force me to get on board!
Alright, so there was a reason for the song.
